The female lead, Nora Vale, is a 27-year-old woman who ostensibly works as a "haunted house reputation restorer", specializing in helping real estate developers erase the terrifying rumors surrounding properties. In reality, she holds no official exorcism license nor possesses powerful spiritual powers; she can merely perceive the "echoes of obsession" left behind after people die. Teaming up with Ruby Bell, an amnesiac female obsession, she stages fake hauntings, edits LIVE footage and applies psychological suggestion to drive property prices down to rock bottom, before purchasing the haunted houses via third-party accounts and reselling them for a profit. At the start, Nora takes on her next LIVE house-cleansing gig, aiming to whitewash a haunted house that has been on the market for a decade. But before the fake ghosts even make their entrance, the truly powerful, deeply attached spirit Caleb Ward is awakened. He is no ordinary ghost, but the "core obsession of the haunted house" that was betrayed, forgotten, and repeatedly exploited by real estate developers. After escaping the house, Caleb sets his sights on everyone who profits from haunted properties.
