Selene Sutton, blind from childhood illness, married the poor boy Dalton. Dalton became a live-in son-in-law. Unhappy with being mocked, Dalton killed Selene's parents, had an affair with a secretary, used her to transfer Sutton family assets, and planned to kill Selene on their wedding anniversary trip to take over all assets.
