Twelve-year-old Karen Grant is sent to live with her nominal uncle, Adrian Grant, after her father disappears in an accident. That icy, brooding man is exactly twelve years older than her, a big shot who pulls the strings in both the business and political worlds with ease. He dotes on her in every possible way, yet she hates him and fears him, wanting nothing more than to flee from his side every second of every day. She runs away with Nathan, who adores her, but Adrian just watches from above as he unleashes his ferocious mastiffs to tear the boy's hands into a bloody mess. What Karen doesn't know, however, is that Nathan, who seems to cherish her like a treasure, is actually a villain with ulterior motives. The uncle who rules her with an iron fist is actually the one protecting her from the shadows as she grows up. PS: Neither of the two leads realizes they are in love; one is desperately trying to prove she's grown up, while the other still sees her as a child. In the end, they clear up the misunderstanding and see their true feelings.
