Caleb Carter, Chairman, pretends to be a beggar. Girlfriend, Crystal Jennings, sees him. She declares Caleb her fiancé, gives him savings. Caleb plans to reveal his identity at the wedding. Caleb's ex-girlfriend tells Crystal's mother Caleb is a beggar. Mother opposes marriage, calls villagers to block him. Caleb gets message not to come, but continues. Villagers block him. Crystal asks why Caleb hasn't arrived. Mother lies, says Caleb canceled, will find another groom.
