Bankrupt Sutton Sullivan buys Holden Ford. He sets a taboo: no physical contact, or her fortune is lost. They develop feelings. Sutton learns breaking the rule means Holden's death, and leaves. Holden transforms into Julian Ford, buys Sutton's debts, forcing her to be his maid. Affection grows amidst torment. Sutton exposes her Uncle's plot; Julian crushes him. They resolve the crisis. Julian proposes, Sutton accepts.
