Molly Linden jumps from a building; her mother, Katherine Lewis, dies. They swap souls. The daughter, in her mother's body, gets a divorce and stands up to her in-laws and family. The mother, in high school, fights bullies and conquers exams. They understand each other, resolving resentment. They switch back. The daughter gets into university, the mother lives independently. They become each other's closest support.
