Adrian Marchetti gets one more life, starting on the morning his mother tells him to choose a wife from the eight girls she raised. Last time he chose Vivienne. Three months after the wedding he was chained in a boat dock and left to drown, and when he called her for help she decided he was faking it. This time he picks Neve, the one nobody looked at twice, hands Vivienne his father's last pill and cuts her off. Vivienne thinks he is sulking and waits in that house, while her room, her shifts and her standing are taken from her one by one. The last thing that pushes her out is her own sentence from initiation night: she said she would cut ties with this house.
